Sovereign opened in early 2015 in downtown Plainfield. The restaurant was founded on the belief of fresh, farm to table food and that is exactly what they serve. They offer everything from vegetarian options, like the Not your Butchers Ordinary Enchiladas and The Farmer’s Plate, to options that meat lovers will enjoy like the Cheese and Charcuterie and the Porky’s Revenge, whatever your taste buds crave, they have it.

The ambiance of the restaurant gives you an at home feel. The plates don’t match and all the drinks are served in mason jars. The staff is wonderful as well. Although it took a little long for our waitress to get to the table to take our drink order, when she got there we could not have asked for a better one.

For an appetizer we ordered the Baked Fontina which is several melted cheeses with a toasted garlic bread. It was excellent. The garlic did not overpower the taste of the cheese, the dish overall was full of amazing flavor. If you’re getting an appetizer, I highly encourage you to order this one.IMG9576371

There was a wide array of entrees to choose from. They cater to the needs of every customer by offering food to fit people’s life styles like the Achilles vs. Hipster (A mushroom and tomato dish) for the vegetarians or the Sovereign burger for those who love meat. We ordered three different entrées. The first entrée was the Sovereign burger which is a build your own burger. I chose to put blue cheese and a fried egg on mine. The meat was cooked perfectly and so was the fried egg. The blue cheese unfortunately was very strong and masked the taste of the other flavors. The second dish was the Rapture of the Sea. There is a different fish daily, served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The fish that day was halibut, which needed to be salted, but overall, with the mashed potatoes, the dish was outstanding. The last entrée we ordered was the Los Pollos Hermanos which was a chicken enchilada served with beans and rice. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce over the top of the dish was delicious.IMG_76391

Finally for dessert we ordered the Strawberry Key Lime pie. Although it didn’t come out looking as pretty as the other dishes the taste was the best of all night.IMG9576421

Sovereign is open Monday – Saturday from 11am – 12am and Sunday from 11am- 10pm. If you’re planning on going make sure you have a good amount of time on your hands, the food is great, but it does take a little bit of time to come out. If you’re a high school kid looking to go on a date it is the perfect place to get a good meal for under fifty dollars. I highly recommend Sovereign, I look forward to going back.
