Player of the Week: Timmy Donnahue
October 20, 2015
Junior Timmy Donnahue is the starting defensive end on the Varsity football team and has shocked the team and himself on his performance this year. He hopes to continue to play this well as they enter the postseason and for his senior year.
Q: What position do you play?
A: Defensive end
Q: When did you get interested in football? Why?
A: I’ve always been a fan of football for as long as I can remember, I started playing it when I was in second grade, and I’ve been playing it ever since. I always looked up to the NFL players as a kid, and I guess that’s what sparked my interest.
Q: How would you describe your playing style?
A: I would say I am an aggressive type of player. I always want to be better than the guy across from me, and I think my competitive energy is what makes me play like this.
Q: How much of a difference is it moving from JV to Varsity?
A: The tempo is much faster and people are much bigger on Varsity for sure, but I feel I’ve adapted well to the speed and size of everyone.
Q: How do you prepare yourself for big games?
A: I stay focused on the game all week, and I watch film on the opposing team. I think that film is important because I have to be a student of the sport and to be prepared for what they do so on Friday night lights I am ready.
Q: Are you happy about your performance so far this year?
A: Yes, I think I really proved myself this year by being the leading tackler and sack leader on defense.
Q: How do you feel leading the defense as a junior?
A: I am really proud of myself and I think I have made a big improvement since freshman year after being a third string to a varsity starter leading the defense.
Q: Do you have a dream to play college football?
A: Yes absolutely; I have had a dream to play college football ever since I was a child.
Q: How do you feel about the records you have broken this season?
A: I feel proud and accomplished, but I could not have done it without my teammates. I think football is a team sport and not just a one man show.
Q: Do you think you can break the records you have already set this year next year?
A: Yes, I will continue to get better this year, and throughout next year.
Q: What are three goals you have for next season?
A: To be a captain, break more records and get a scholarship for division-one football.
