Second place state finish

Sophomore Jessica Kovalcik begins a backhand swing during the IHSA girl’s state singles finals on Oct 22. Kovalcik placed second in state, losing in scores of 7-5 and 6-2 to Stevenson’s Sarah Wang. The finals followed a four hour semifinal match due to a tiebreak. Kovalcik improved from third place at state last year after an undefeated season.
