Spending eight hours a day in the school building is not enjoyable. So, why would students want to spend one of the biggest events of the school year stuck in North’s hot, sticky, smelly gym? They wouldn’t, and that is why the homecoming dance should continue to be held outside.
Celebrating homecoming outdoors allows students to be comfortable while dressed for the occasion.
Though students love dressing up, being able to dance for three hours without discomfort is always a perk. Girls are not allowed to wear heels on the stadium turf, so comfortable footwear is no longer a fashion choice, it is required of all individuals.
For students who attended last year’s prom, think about how quickly you regretted your choice of uncomfortable high heels and desperately wanted to don a pair of flip flops.
Much of the events held during homecoming week such as the pep rally, powder puff game and the homecoming football game all take place on the field. What better way to cap off the biggest week than in a familiar and high energy arena.
Though homecoming can get a little chilly around the late hours of night, it still beats being in a boiling and crowded space with no way to cool down.
Homecoming outdoors also allows students to spend time near the concessions where there are tables and games, along with lots of space for catching up with friends. Standing the entire evening is not for everyone, and the bleachers allow plenty of space to either take a break or spend the night in comfort. Experiencing homecoming crammed indoors does not give students much space to roam unlike a football field.
Over the past few years North students have preferred homecoming outdoors. In the midst of the pandemic, the dance was moved outdoors for safety reasons. Since then, North should continue holding it outdoors because it turned into a success.
