Crimson Crazies hits the bleachers with some new additions.
North’s school spirit group was established in 2005 as the official fans of the North sports teams. Members are in charge of planning themes.
New sponsors, English teacher Justin Moore and ASL teacher Rachel Loveless, updated the rules and limitations to increase student spirit and inclusivity.
Underclassmen are now allowed to attend the meetings with their own specialized Google Classroom page, but with limitations.
“Our senior Crimson Crazies members will be the leaders at the front of the student section, while our Chant Coordinators will be leading cheers and keeping
the crowd alive,” Moore said. ”To keep things fair and structured, no changes will really be made to the layout of the student section.”
At the Aug. 25 meeting, only seniors were allowed to propose theme ideas that were later voted on by the whole club.
The members voted to change the first theme of the football season from the traditional “neon” to “black out.”
Reaction to allow underclassmen to join has been mixed.
“It’s good for school spirit and to allow the underclassman to feel welcomed into the school,” senior Evan Reneau said.
The underclassmen have extremely mixed opinions regarding their admittance into the Crimson Crazies. While some have found comfort in the spirit club, others have not had such delightful experiences.
Freshman Allison Kwasny took advantage of the club’s more inclusive membership.
“I think Crimson Crazies is fun and very interactive,” Kwasny said. “Although we haven’t done much so far. the roles people have and the people that I’ve met are all really nice.”
Freshman Isabella Koldoff did not feel included in the group during the first meeting.
“Seniors were over there chatting about Crimson Crazies, but we were just sitting there eating Cheez-Its while watching them do all the work,” Koldoff said.
Also new this year is a leadership council.
“One major change that Ms. Loveless and I made … was creating various senior student leadership positions,” Moore said. “These positions were created with the intent of being fun but also to provide students with experience they can take with them when transitioning into college.”
With the help of the new sponsors and the newfound leadership council, the Crimson Crazies hope to provide an inclusive environment for everyone to share their Tiger spirit.
“My aspirations regarding Crimson Crazies this year are to help grow and expand to get as many
students involved as possible,” Moore said. “North is a very unique school in the fact that school spirit is
naturally ingrained in the student population. I want to be able to offer a fun outlet to give all
students an opportunity to demonstrate their strong school spirit.”
