Taylor Swift dominated last year. As an American singer and songwriter, she has climbed the music charts since her first self-titled album was released in 2006. Many people call her music catalog a masterpiece or a work of art.
Anyone who knows what it means to write music with meaning and passion would know Swift is one of the greatest artists of all time.
People like to call her fans “Swifties”, overdramatic and obsessive. However, like any artist with true talent, she has built a supporting and empowering community by speaking to her fans on all platforms and spreading the importance of kindness and generosity. Through numerous media outlets, she vocalizes the importance of women building pride and courage within themselves and within other females.
Though the music industry has not always been accepting and supportive of female dominance, Swift has been able to change the narrative by speaking out on behalf of the female community and sharing the difficulties of being a woman in today’s world.
Swift has released 10 studio albums. She even fought for artist’s rights regarding the masters of six albums with her former record label, Big Machine. In response, she has so far produced what she calls “Taylor’s Version” of four of the studio albums under the Republic Records label.
According to Republic Records, “Taylor’s Version of her “1989” album topped the charts on Billboard 200 last November with 3.5 million sales worldwide in its opening week.
Throughout her career, it has been argued that Swift writes nothing but breakup songs or songs about love, reasoning that she should not be promoting this to such young girls who do not understand the true context.
Nevertheless, Swift has proved the cynics wrong with her objective being to advocate and give all females a safe space. For example, in her song “The Man”, Swift sings about how if she was a man with the same ambition, she would be more well respected. Even so, she proves she is just as worthy of the respect and praise for having such power as a woman.
In spite of the disregard and slander Swift receives not only from fellow artists but detractors about her as a person and her music, she has remained kind and encouraging.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning Swift spoke about her haters. “People go on about having to forgive and forget to move on but no you don’t, you don’t have to forget or forgive, you just move on and become indifferent,” Swift said.
Swift’s tour successes have not only been lucrative for Swift but surrounding towns and communities have benefited as well. According to USA Today “The Eras tour helped the economy by producing five million dollars worth of consumer spending.”
Naysayers who believe Swift is an overrated artist do not know what dedication and hard work looks like in both the music industry and in the world of male dominance making it difficult for a woman to establish her mark. Despite that, Swift is the most successful female artist in the
