The Lollapalooza Chicago event was held from Aug. 1 to Aug 4. This festival is known for its crazy guests, artists and fans. Even with all the fun of this occasion…safety is still first.
There’s only one rule according to the Lollapalooza website: “Remember: You’re the eyes and ears of the festival. If you see something suspicious, say something.”
When entering a festival as big as this one, there are always going to be entry protocols that every individual has to follow, including a full-body pat down, bag checks and magnetometer screening.
“When I entered this music festival, security was everywhere,” Plainfield North student Ava Salcedo said. “These arrangements help all guests feel more protected in a major event.”
Lollapalooza is filled with crowded sweaty people, which increases the chance to pass out, so remember to stay hydrated. There are stations for free and cool water to keep the body moving.
“Being outdoors in the hot summer sun will quickly dehydrate you. You can bring two bottles of water inside the festival each day, so take advantage of this rule. Personal Injury Lawyer based in Chicago, Jared Staver said, “The excitement of the event can make you forget you’re thirsty, but try to drink water at regular intervals throughout the day.”
Using the buddy system, the Main Guest Service Tent is designed to help those who are lost meet their peers.
According to the Lollapalooza website, “The Main Guest Services Tent is the designated meeting point for lost or separated people. If one of your friends is in trouble, please alert festival staff – they will assist you, no questions asked.”
A lost and found is at almost every event you go to. With so many people, losing belongings can be done easily. Guest Services is where personal items can be found.
“Towards the end of Lollapalooza, looking down on the ground, you see many personal items from individuals,” Plainfield North student Ava Gorny said. “For example, my friends and I saw a random phone with no one around.”
Prioritizing safety creates more happy faces. Do not hesitate to ask for help when needed. A festival like this one is filled with all kinds of protocols but more filled with smiles of joy.
“Lollapalooza was more than a great experience; the music and people really brought everyone together having the best time,” Salcedo said. “I would recommend others to go next year to live the outgoing feeling.”
