The most impactful experiences for both the recipient and giver can be an act of kindness with an undefiable amount of influence. One will never know if a kind glance or word could be as little as making a person’s day or become something substantial in that person’s life. The giver of kindness can also morally benefit from giving to other people.
Phoebe Harter shared her experience with an act of kindness from a stranger. Phoebe was at a laundromat with her aunt and met a couple whom she started talking to. The couple noted that it was great that a niece would go with her aunt to do a mundane task such as laundry. Before Phoebe left the laundromat with her aunt, the couple gave her a $20 bill which left Phoebe in awe of the kindness. Harter shared her gratitude towards the couple for how enlightening their kindness was.
Going out of one’s day to do a kind act for another person takes a lot of courage. To be kind, one should have some kind of openness. Whether the door is open towards oneself or another, a kind act will chemically change the brain for the better. According to SSM Health, “Being kind boosts serotonin and dopamine.”
No matter how rare or common a random act of kindness is, the presence of such an act holds the same amount of merit. In the month of love, make a conscious decision to be kind to oneself, others, and the world on your way out to face the day.
