Disney unveils Star Wars themed expansions for U.S. park locations

Guests will be able to meet Darth Vader and clones on Disney cruises after Disney acquires LucasFilms.

On August 14, Disney fans from around the world gathered in the Anaheim Convention center in California for the Biannual event held by Disney, D23. People eagerly waited to hear the news on the products that Disney has in store for us in the next few years.

Even though many people were excited for things like Frozen and Pixar’s announcements, the product that brought the most buzz and attention was the Star Wars Panel.

Ever since Disney multi-million dollar acquisition of LucasFilm back in 2012, there by owning the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchise, fans have been jumping at the bits just to get any information when it comes to the beloved franchises. And At D23 Disney delivered big time announcing a massive 14 acre expansion of both Disney world in Orlando, Florida and Disneyland in Anaheim, California that would be completely Star Wars themed.

The Star Wars themed land will be populated with such rides that put you at the seat of the Millennium Falcon and an actual running Cantina like the one seen in New Hope. Also all of the employees will be dressed in costumes representing the creatures in the Star wars universe such as Storm Troopers and Jawas.

“These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance,” said Bob Iger, Disney Head, at D23.

This land expansion will mark the single biggest theme park expansion in history.

“It’s really pushing what you thought was possible in terms of an amusement park experience,” Said J.J Abrams, referring to the park expansion at disney, “When you see what they’re working on in these parks, your mind will be blown.”

Disney’s really doing whatever they can with their Star Wars product. Not just with theme parks, but with the actual films themselves. They have Recently announced a Han Solo solo film, a movie about the bounty hunters in the movies, and a new trilogy in the works.

“I so excited for this new trilogy,” Said Senior and Star Wars fanatic Bryan Bott, “The more I see the more I get pumped up. I really think that are going to put it off.”

Also at D23, Bob Iger and crew announced the new director for Star Wars Episode 9, Jurassic World Director Colin Trevorrow.

“We will makes these films by channeling something that George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.” said Trevorrow to the fans at D23.

Trevorrow joins the likes of People like J.J Abrams (of Lost and Fringe fame) and Rian Johnson (of Looper and Brick fame)  as the directors of the main of triology. Also director of 2014’s Godzilla remake, Gareth Edwards, is in the helm for Rogue One, the Star Wars analogy film starring Oscar nominated actress Felica Jones, that is coming out next year.

“We’re bringing Star Wars to life in a big way.” said Iger, “People will truly be invested into these films we are coming out with.”

The land expansion will begin later this year at around the Episode 7 comes to theaters. Also Rogue One will come out next year.

Many fans of the franchise are excited to see what disney is doing with the popular product.
